The Cessna Citation Ascend has received FAA type certification, marking a significant milestone for Textron Aviation. This certification, achieved after a rigorous program involving two flight test articles that completed over 1,000 flight hours, clears the path for the aircraft’s entry into service. The Ascend is positioned as a versatile business jet that integrates customer feedback into a refined package of performance, comfort, and advanced technology.
A major upgrade is the entirely new cockpit, centered on the Garmin G5000 avionics suite. This system features three large 14-inch displays and is packed with innovations to enhance safety and reduce pilot workload. Key technologies include an autothrottle for flight-envelope protection, synthetic vision for terrain rendering, and a cockpit voice and data satellite transceiver. For superior connectivity and routing, especially across the Atlantic, it offers a second Iridium data radio and Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC).
Performance is boosted by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW545D engines, which provide increased thrust and fuel efficiency. The aircraft achieves a maximum speed of 441 ktas and a maximum range of 1,940 nautical miles, coupled with a useful full fuel payload of 900 pounds. Operational efficiency is further supported by an unattended Honeywell RE100 APU that manages cabin heating and cooling with less fuel and noise.
The cabin experience is a core focus, featuring a luxurious flat floor design that offers generous legroom and flexibility. The cabin can be configured for up to 12 passengers and includes an advanced acoustic treatment system for a quiet, conversational environment. It boasts all-new, 15% larger windows with multiple shade settings. For passenger convenience, there are 19 USB charging ports, universal outlets, and first-in-class wireless phone charging. An optional immersive Bongiovi sound system and wireless controls for lighting and temperature enhance the ambiance.
Keeping everyone connected is standard with GoGo U.S. Avance L3 Max Wi-Fi, with higher-speed L5 and global Gogo Galileo HDX systems available as options. The Citation Ascend successfully builds upon the legacy of the 560XL series, delivering a business jet that combines improved performance with a highly productive and luxurious cabin environment.
