Archer Aviation has achieved a major milestone in its international expansion, successfully completing an intensive in-country flight test campaign for its Midnight eVTOL aircraft in the United Arab Emirates. The testing, conducted in the challenging desert environment of Abu Dhabi, comprehensively demonstrated Midnight’s full flight envelope, including vertical takeoff, transition to wingborne flight, and operations over desert terrain. This accomplishment represents a significant leap forward for the implementation of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) vision.
The successful campaign, executed in close coordination with key UAE entities like the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Integrated Transport Centre, has triggered the commencement of payments to Archer under its definitive agreement with Abu Dhabi Aviation (ADA). This is a core component of Archer’s innovative Launch Edition program, a framework designed to make Abu Dhabi the first region in the world to initiate commercial eVTOL operations. The tests validated Midnight’s performance and reliability under local conditions, a critical step on the company’s path toward operational readiness.
Beyond flight tests, Archer is building robust momentum across multiple fronts. The company recently hosted the GCAA for a dedicated working session at its California headquarters to accelerate the aircraft certification pathway. Concurrently, progress is being made on pilot training in partnership with Etihad Aviation Training and on preparations for future aircraft maintenance.
This commercial progress aligns perfectly with Abu Dhabi’s ambitious plan to develop an emirate-wide air taxi network featuring over 10 vertiport sites. With this initial testing phase complete, Archer will advance to the next stage of its Launch Edition program. This next phase, supported by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), will focus on recruiting and training local pilots, advancing certification work with the GCAA, conducting more flight tests, and preparing for early-stage commercial operations. These coordinated efforts underscore the powerful partnership driving Abu Dhabi’s emergence as a global leader in advanced air mobility.
