Moog Awarded GMLRS Development Contract

by Editorial Staff

Moog Australia, a subsidiary of Moog Inc., has been awarded a significant contract by Lockheed Martin Australia (LMA) to develop the Control Actuation System (CAS) for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS). This agreement is a cornerstone for building sovereign defence capability, directly supporting the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA). The GMLRS is a precision-guided, combat-proven rocket launched from systems like HIMARS and M270 MLRS.

This contract is the result of a strategic prior investment by Moog to establish a guided weapons pathfinder program at its Australian facility. To execute the program, Moog will create a localised pilot production line for the GMLRS CAS design. A key objective is to actively engage Australian industry in manufacturing critical components, thereby strengthening the national industrial base and mitigating program risks. The initiative will be bolstered by embedded engineering support from the U.S., ensuring a rapid and effective knowledge transfer to accelerate domestic expertise.

Company leaders have emphasized the strategic importance of this collaboration. Bryan O’Connor, Managing Director of Moog Australia, expressed excitement about contributing to a sovereign missile capability. Mike Gruver, a Senior Vice President at Moog, stated the company is ready to deepen its collaboration, noting that utilizing production as a deterrent is a key focus for increasing regional security during a significant geopolitical pivot.

James Heading of Lockheed Martin Australia Missiles and Fire Control welcomed the partnership, highlighting that the future of Australia’s guided weapons industry depends on a collaborative ecosystem, technological innovation, and a strong industrial base. He affirmed that the partnership with Moog exemplifies Lockheed Martin’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology and trusted partnerships. Together, the companies are focused on building a resilient and innovative defence industrial base to ensure regional security and deliver an enduring, sovereign capability for the nation.
