Safran partners with Skyted to add silent communication to IFEC.

Skyted, a deeptech startup pioneering silent voice communication, has announced an exclusive agreement with Safran Passenger Innovations (SPI), a leader in In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC). The partnership will integrate Skyted’s innovative technology into SPI’s market-leading RAVE In-Flight Entertainment systems, aiming to transform passenger communication by making confidential, silent phone calls a reality in the cabin.

This strategic collaboration marks a significant step toward resolving the long-standing challenge of enabling voice calls on aircraft without disturbing the cabin’s quiet atmosphere. Skyted’s proprietary technology captures speech directly at its source—near the user’s mouth—and drastically limits the diffusion of sound waves into the surrounding environment. This breakthrough addresses core airline concerns about noise pollution and passenger comfort.

For travelers, the integration promises multiple benefits. It enables confidential business conversations or personal calls without the need to raise one’s voice over cabin noise, ensuring privacy and preventing eavesdropping. Crucially, it protects the shared cabin space, eliminating the disturbance caused by a nearby passenger’s loud phone call and reducing potential interventions from cabin crew. The technology effectively supports an “office in the sky” for business travelers while preserving the peaceful experience leisure passengers expect.

SPI will incorporate Skyted’s solution through its RAVE Open Platform, a framework designed to seamlessly embed cutting-edge third-party technologies into its IFE ecosystem. This approach allows SPI to rapidly offer airlines new, innovative digital services that enhance the passenger experience.

“As truly broadband connectivity becomes ubiquitous in flight, our goal is to introduce digital experiences that anticipate future passenger needs,” said John Andrews, Vice President of Business Development at SPI. “Integrating Skyted’s technology introduces a truly disruptive onboard capability: silent, confidential communication that fully preserves cabin quietness.”

The partnership underscores a shared vision for the future of connected air travel. “What if 300 passengers could make a call simultaneously without creating chaos? With Skyted, this scenario becomes real: speak softly, be heard clearly on confidential matters, and do not disturb those around you,” explained Stéphane Hersen, CEO of Skyted.

By merging SPI’s industrial scale and aviation expertise with Skyted’s boundary-pushing deeptech, the collaboration opens the door to a new era of inflight connectivity. It represents a technological leap that could redefine social norms and possibilities in the cabin, offering airlines a unique competitive advantage and passengers a previously unimaginable—and quiet—way to communicate at 30,000 feet.
