New Glenn Launches NASA’s ESCAPADE, Lands Fully Reusable Booster

by Editorial Staff

On November 13, 2025, Blue Origin’s New Glenn heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle successfully launched from Cape Canaveral, marking a pivotal achievement for the company and the broader space industry. The mission, which lifted off at 3:55 PM EST, achieved full mission success by deploying its primary payload and demonstrating key reusable launch vehicle capabilities.

The flight’s primary objective was the deployment of NASA’s ESCAPADE mission. The twin ESCAPADE spacecraft were successfully inserted into their designated loiter orbit, beginning their journey to study Mars’ magnetic field and atmospheric escape. This heliophysics investigation will provide critical data on how Mars lost its atmosphere, information vital for planning future crewed missions to the Red Planet.

A major milestone was the successful landing of the New Glenn first stage on the Atlantic Ocean recovery vessel, Jacklyn. This event marked the first time a booster of this size has been recovered on its second flight attempt, a significant step in proving the viability of large, reusable launch vehicles. The mission also carried a secondary payload for Viasat, successfully testing a new telemetry data relay service for NASA.

Leadership celebrated the accomplishment. Dave Limp, CEO of Blue Origin, emphasized the team’s success and the beginning of a rapid scaling of flight cadence. Acting NASA Administrator Sean Duffy congratulated the partners, noting the mission’s importance for the Artemis program and future Mars exploration goals.

The success is a cornerstone for Blue Origin’s ambitious roadmap. The New Glenn vehicle is foundational to establishing a sustained human presence on the Moon, supporting in-space resource utilization, and enabling multi-orbit mobility through platforms like Blue Ring. The program has a substantial backlog, with vehicles in production for customers including Amazon’s Project Kuiper and AST SpaceMobile.

This mission also served as a critical certification flight for the National Security Space Launch (NSSL) program, paving the way for Blue Origin to compete for crucial U.S. Space Force missions. With a clear focus on increasing launch tempo and working through its manifest, New Glenn has opened a new era of heavy-lift capability and reusability.
