Air China Cargo Becomes New Airbus A350F Freighter Custome

by Editorial Staff

Air China Cargo Co., Ltd. has solidified its position as a leader in the air cargo industry by signing a purchase agreement for six Airbus A350F aircraft, making it the first mainland Chinese customer for this all-new freighter. This strategic acquisition is designed to enhance the airline’s operational resilience and long-term stability.

According to Wang Hongyan, Vice President of Air China Cargo, introducing the A350F into their mixed cargo fleet will significantly boost operational and maintenance efficiency. The advanced aircraft will provide the company with a superior capability to withstand market fluctuations and other operational risks. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of Commercial Aircraft, echoed this sentiment, expressing delight in welcoming Air China Cargo as the latest A350F customer. He emphasized that the freighter would bring new-generation efficiency and performance, along with enhanced capacity and unprecedented loading flexibility, ensuring a seamless integration into the airline’s existing network.

Headquartered in Beijing, Air China Cargo holds the distinction of being China’s sole national-flag-carrying cargo airline. It operates a comprehensive network of all-cargo aircraft across key regions in China, including North, East, South, and Southwest China. Its global reach is extensive, with 25 dedicated all-cargo routes connecting major hubs in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East. This robust freighter and passenger belly network is further supported by over 1,500 ground trucking routes, creating a truly integrated global logistics chain.

The Airbus A350F itself is engineered as the world’s most advanced freighter, specifically designed to meet the diverse and evolving demands of the global air cargo market, including express, general, and special cargo services. With a payload capacity of up to 111 tonnes and a range of 8,700 km, it offers exceptional performance. A key advantage is its dramatic reduction in environmental impact; powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, it achieves up to a 40% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft.

Constructed from over 70% advanced materials, the A350F is 46 tonnes lighter than its closest competitors and features the industry’s largest main deck cargo door for superior loading flexibility. It stands as the only new freighter that already fully complies with the ICAO’s stringent 2027 CO2 emission standards. Furthermore, the aircraft is poised to lead the industry’s sustainability transition, being capable of operating with a 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend upon entry into service, with a clear roadmap to 100% SAF capability by 2030. The program is progressing well, with the assembly of test aircraft currently underway in Toulouse.
