StandardAero, a leading independent provider of aerospace engine aftermarket services, has broken ground on a major 70,000 sq. ft. expansion to its Winnipeg, Manitoba facility. This significant growth of its Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) campus is dedicated to supporting the GE Aerospace CF34-3/8 and CFM International CFM56-7B turbofan engines. The investment reinforces the site’s role as a critical hub for global commercial and military operators.
The expansion will substantially increase capacity for the CF34-3/8 engine, the powerplant for popular regional jets like the Embraer E175 and MHIRJ CRJ700. It will also allow for more work on the CFM56-7B engine, which powers the Boeing 737 Next Generation family and military derivatives such as the P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft. This development is a direct response to growing global demand for MRO services.
This strategic project is supported by a $3 million contribution from the Manitoba provincial government, highlighting a successful public-private partnership. The investment is a powerful endorsement of Manitoba as a premier destination for aerospace industry growth and will support the facility’s highly skilled workforce.
Russ Ford, Chairman & CEO of StandardAero, stated the expansion reinforces the company’s commitment to its customers and will increase the building’s footprint by 40 percent. He emphasized the company’s 25-year reputation for reliable service on the CF34 engine family and its dedication to exceeding customer expectations for decades to come.
Peter Wheatley, Vice President & General Manager for the CF34/CFM56 programs, noted that this investment continues StandardAero’s 114-year presence in Winnipeg and cements its commitment to its 1,500 local employees. He confirmed that the new space, scheduled to be operational in the second half of 2026, will feature world-class equipment and processes. Furthermore, the additional capacity is already largely secured through long-term contracts, ensuring sustained work for the future.
A GE Aerospace representative expressed pleasure with the expansion, noting it will offer customers greater capacity and choice within the MRO network to meet surging travel demand. This expansion solidifies StandardAero’s position as a high-performing and trusted partner in the global aerospace ecosystem.
