In a landmark deal announced at the Dubai Airshow, Emirates Airline has placed a massive new order for 65 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, further solidifying its long-term expansion strategy and its position as the world’s largest 777X customer. This third major order for the 777X family brings Emirates’ total commitment to 270 of the advanced jets, a clear signal of its confidence in future travel demand and the strategic growth plans of its hub, Dubai.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, emphasized that the order represents a “long-term commitment” to the airline’s partnership with Boeing and to the U.S. aerospace industry. He stated that each new aircraft has been meticulously integrated into the airline’s growth plan, which is designed to align with and support the ongoing economic and tourism development of Dubai.

Boeing expressed its honor at the continued selection by the major carrier. Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, highlighted the four-decade-long partnership, noting Emirates’ evolution into a world-leading airline renowned for excellence and innovation. She affirmed Boeing’s commitment to supporting Emirates’ fleet modernization and global network expansion for decades to come.

The Boeing 777-9, the passenger jet variant of the new 777X family, is poised to set new global standards. Building on the legacy of the iconic 777, which serves as the flagship of the Emirates fleet, the 777-9 is designed to be the world’s largest and most efficient twin-engine jet. It promises a significant 20% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions compared to previous generation aircraft, addressing key industry goals for sustainability.

For passengers, the new widebody airliner will offer a vastly superior travel experience. The cabin is designed to be wider and more spacious, featuring improved humidity levels, a smoother ride, and more natural light, enhancing comfort on long-haul routes. The 777X’s robust design is engineered to handle high-capacity, long-range flights, including operations through harsh environments, making it an ideal platform for Emirates’ extensive international network. This order cements the 777X’s status as a transformative aircraft for international airline travel.
