L3Harris’ Viper Shield electronic warfare suite has officially passed its Production Readiness Review (PRR), a critical milestone that authorizes its transition into low-rate initial production. This achievement solidifies Viper Shield’s position as the most advanced and the only EW system for the global F-16 fleet that is currently in production, delivering this critical capability years ahead of any competing developmental systems.
The successful PRR, a comprehensive evaluation of design, manufacturing, and supply chain readiness, demonstrates the program’s maturity. This is particularly vital for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs where international partners depend on proven quality and reliable delivery. Through this process, Viper Shield proved its readiness to begin producing 219 systems for seven allied partner nations, with full-rate production expected in the first quarter of 2026.
Viper Shield stands out as the premier electronic warfare solution because it is fully funded, internationally backed, and already on the production line. Its unique offering includes a versatile Pod variant, enhancing its affordability and adaptability for different mission requirements. This combination of sophisticated technology, production reality, and international support makes it the most efficient and advanced EW suite available for the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
The system continues to undergo rigorous testing to ensure peak performance in extreme operational environments, guaranteeing advanced protection and resilience for pilots. With a robust supply chain and a high Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL), L3Harris is scaled to meet growing demand from additional nations. The deployment of Viper Shield will significantly enhance the offensive and defensive capabilities of international partners, and the program remains available to benefit United States active duty and Guard units through an FMS-funded program.
