TRU Simulation + Training , a Textron company, has officially delivered and received acceptance for a Bell 505 Flight Training Device (FTD) from the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF). This delivery is a key component of a larger purchase agreement that also included the recent delivery of 10 Bell 505 helicopters and a comprehensive computer-based training package. The integrated system is designated to support both basic and advanced rotorcraft flight training programs at the King Hussein Air College in Mafraq, Jordan.
According to Jerry Messaris, vice president and general manager at TRU Simulation, this advanced training solution is designed to significantly enhance pilot readiness. The FTD achieves this by providing realistic simulation of a wide range of flight procedures and critical emergency scenarios, ensuring pilots are thoroughly prepared for real-world operations. This collaboration with Bell underscores a shared commitment to the global advancement of aviation training technology.
The Bell 505 FTD is a high-fidelity simulator that serves as an exact virtual replica of the current production model of the Bell 505 helicopter. It incorporates a fully realized cockpit frame, complete with functional components such as two Garmin G1000H NXi display units, a simulated electronic standby instrument module, and a Garmin GMA 350Hc communication system. The cockpit is also equipped with a simulated Technisonic TDFM-920 radio, authentic aircraft seats, precise flight controls, and all relevant aircraft panels to create an immersive environment.
Beyond the physical cockpit, the simulation software features meticulously crafted aerodynamics, engine, controls, and sound models. These elements work in concert to achieve the highest possible fidelity, creating a truly realistic training experience. The device supports training in both visual and instrument meteorological conditions. A key feature is its direct projection surround visual system, which provides full immersion and even enables formation flying training. The entire 505 FTD configuration is designed to meet, at a minimum, the stringent Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) qualification requirements for a Level 5 FTD as defined under Title 14 CFR Part 60, ensuring its quality and effectiveness for professional pilot training.
