Lockheed Martin has announced a major artificial intelligence (AI) breakthrough with its new STAR.OS™ solution. This powerful platform is designed to solve the persistent challenge of interoperability, providing a common framework that allows different AI systems to work together seamlessly toward a common goal. This innovation is poised to enhance future collaborations with private sector companies and significantly advance national security capabilities.
The STAR.OS™ platform integrates Systems, Tactical applications, Autonomy/AI, and Rapid deployment into a unified framework. It is composed of three core product lines, each targeting a specific integration hurdle. The Service Development Kit (STAR.SDK™) provides developers with a toolkit for the rapid creation and deployment of AI services. The Interoperability system (STAR.IO™) acts as a critical connector, enabling disparate AI systems to communicate and share information effectively. Finally, the User Interface (STAR.UI™) offers a clear, real-time view into AI operations and performance, aided by built-in AI assistants for operators and engineers.
According to Mike Baylor, Lockheed Martin vice president and chief digital AI officer, this solution represents a major step forward in creating seamless AI integrations. The objective is to deliver more effective and efficient solutions, enabling customers to make more informed decisions and maintain an advantage against emerging threats.
Early deployments of the STAR.OS™ solution are already supporting the Department of War and other government customers. It has demonstrated tangible success in critical mission areas such as maritime threat detection and missile warning. The platform’s robust potential was further showcased during an internal AI Fight Club™ hackathon, where it successfully integrated multiple, diverse AI services into a single digital environment, proving its capacity to significantly enhance mission effectiveness for the warfighter.
