Timber Express 2025: Hensoldt Provides Networking Capabilities

by Editorial Staff

At the multinational Timber Express 2025 air force exercise, sensor specialist HENSOLDT successfully demonstrated its advanced, end-to-end command and control capabilities. The company proved its pivotal role in enhancing the networking and interoperability of allied task forces through a practical display of integrated systems. A cornerstone of this achievement was the OPTARION mission support system, which acted as the crucial technological bridge between disparate data links and weapon systems.

A key milestone was the fully digital command of an NH90 helicopter within a joint tactical data network, eliminating the need for parallel voice communication. This breakthrough in digital command support underscores a future-proof approach to networked mission control. HENSOLDT further showcased intelligent system integration by incorporating the latest EUA TakOp configuration and an extended SitaWare Headquarters interface, thereby boosting both tactical effectiveness and overall system resilience.

The exercise also emphasized developing interoperability beyond pure technology. New operational procedures for data links were tested, leveraging the forthcoming capabilities of EUA New Technologies (NT). Furthermore, the successful long-range integration and cluster operation of two HF antenna arrays—one positioned over 100 kilometers away—addressed critical operational requirements for reducing conspicuous field infrastructure.

The close collaboration between battle captains, system administrators, and HENSOLDT experts highlighted that true interoperability is achieved where deep technical expertise meets comprehensive operational process understanding. Timber Express 2025 ultimately validated that adaptive, software-defined, and resilient command and control architectures are now an operational reality.
