Firefly Aerospace Closes Acquisition of SciTec National Security Technology Company

by Editorial Staff

Firefly Aerospace has finalized its acquisition of SciTec, a prominent developer of advanced national security technologies. The transaction, initially announced in October, was completed through a payment combining cash and Firefly common stock. This strategic move propels Firefly into a new era as a comprehensive provider of integrated hardware and software solutions for the space and defense sectors.

The acquisition is highly complementary, merging Firefly’s proven launch, lunar, and in-space vehicles with SciTec’s sophisticated software portfolio. This union significantly enhances Firefly’s capabilities in several critical areas. It bolsters the company with AI-enabled defense software for missile warning, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), and autonomous command and control. Furthermore, Firefly gains immense big data processing power for cloud, on-premise, and edge computing, enabling rapid decision-making from satellite data. The deal also advances Firefly’s role in pivotal national security programs, including space-based interceptors and hypersonic testing.

Operationally, SciTec adds tremendous value by contributing over 475 specialized employees with expertise in high-stakes classified missions. The acquisition includes state-of-the-art facilities such as data centers, mission operations centers, and modeling and simulation labs across six strategic locations. It also brings robust, revenue-generating contracts with key defense and intelligence agencies.

SciTec will operate as a subsidiary under its current CEO, Jim Lisowski, who will now report to Firefly CEO Jason Kim. Both leaders emphasize that combining their talent and technology creates an unstoppable force, capable of delivering the future of edge processing for dynamic space operations and supporting the most critical national security missions.
