Kopin Corporation ,a developer of high-performance microdisplays and optical systems, has received a $3.6 million purchase order for an advanced helmet-mounted display (HMD) system. The technology will be integrated into a rotary-wing military aircraft for a European defense customer.
The HMD system functions as a primary pilot interface, projecting critical flight data—including symbology, navigation cues, aircraft status, and weapons information—directly into the pilot’s line of sight. This design allows aircrew to maintain focus on the external environment while accessing essential mission data, reducing the need to glance at cockpit instruments. The high-brightness display is engineered to remain readable even in demanding lighting conditions, aiming to improve situational awareness and reduce cognitive workload during complex operations.
Deliveries under the multi-year award are scheduled to begin in 2026 and will span five years, aligning with the platform’s long-term production and sustainment requirements.
The new contract reinforces Kopin’s role as a supplier of mission-ready display technology for global aviation programs. With this addition, the company’s current order backlog for pilot HMD applications now exceeds $10 million, reflecting increasing demand for advanced display solutions tailored to modern aircrew needs.
“Kopin’s display technologies continue to play a vital role in next-generation aviation systems,” said Iwan Dodd, SVP of Business Development. “Our commitment to delivering rugged, high-performance solutions ensures pilots have the information they need—precisely when and where they need it. As mission demands grow more complex, we remain focused on providing reliable, U.S.-engineered display systems that enhance safety, situational awareness, and operational effectiveness for aircrews around the world.”
