FALLS CHURCH, Va. – General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) announced it has been awarded the inaugural task order under the U.S. Air Force’s expansive, $8.75 billion Base Infrastructure Modernization (BIM) contract vehicle. The $131 million award, issued in July 2025, initiates a critical effort to overhaul network infrastructure at multiple Air and Space Force installations across the strategically vital Pacific region.

The BIM program represents a foundational shift for the Department of the Air Force, aiming to replace legacy, disparate networks with a single, secure, and high-performance enterprise environment at bases globally. This first task order positions GDIT to execute the initial phase of this vision, focusing on the Indo-Pacific theater—an area of paramount strategic priority.

Under the contract, which includes a one-year base period and four option years, GDIT will design and deploy advanced wired and wireless network technologies. The modernization is designed to deliver a substantial leap in connectivity speed, cybersecurity resilience, and system interoperability. Ultimately, the upgraded infrastructure will enhance data readiness and decision-making for commanders and warfighters operating across vast distances.

“Modern conflict demands an information edge, and that edge is built on a resilient, high-speed network,” said Brian Sheridan, senior vice president for Defense at GDIT. “This award allows us to directly support that imperative. We are focused on providing a next-generation digital foundation so that Pacific-based forces can communicate and operate with the speed and precision required for today’s missions.”

GDIT brings a half-century of partnership with the Air Force to the BIM program, with deep experience in enterprise IT, cybersecurity, and mission network operations. The company’s ongoing work supports a wide range of Air and Space Force functions, including intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), digital engineering, and enterprise IT modernization, all aimed at strengthening overall readiness and information superiority.

This initial task order marks the practical launch of the multi-billion-dollar BIM initiative, setting the technical and operational precedent for subsequent modernization efforts at Air and Space Force bases worldwide. The program is expected to be a cornerstone in achieving a more interconnected and agile force, capable of meeting evolving global challenges.
