Satair to Acquire Unical Aviation, Boosting USM Capabilities

by Editorial Staff

In a major strategic move, Satair, an Airbus company, has announced an agreement to acquire Unical Aviation Inc., a prominent global supplier of aircraft parts and components, along with its subsidiary, ecube, a specialist in aircraft storage, disassembly, and transition services. This acquisition marks a pivotal step in Satair’s expansion within the Used Serviceable Material (USM) market, significantly bolstering its ability to deliver comprehensive and integrated aftermarket solutions to the global aerospace industry.

The transaction brings under Satair’s umbrella a substantial operational network, including Unical’s and ecube’s seven sites and offices across North America, Spain, and the United Kingdom. This addition provides a strategic expansion of Satair’s global footprint, incorporating a combined workforce of 413 employees and projected 2024 revenues of $298 million. The deal is pending standard regulatory approvals and is anticipated to be finalized in early 2026.

This acquisition is fundamentally about enhancing Satair’s aircraft lifecycle management capabilities. By integrating Unical’s expertise in USM and ecube’s proficiency in storage and disassembly, Satair strengthens its position as a reliable provider of end-of-life support and sustainable material practices. This new structure will complement the existing capabilities of Satair’s other subsidiary, VAS Aero Services, which was acquired in 2022, creating a powerful synergy across engine, multi-fleet USM, and transition services.

Richard Stoddart, CEO of Satair and Head of Airbus Material Services, expressed his delight, stating the move is essential for prolonging the lifespan of material resources, maximizing asset value, and establishing responsible practices for the industry’s long-term future. Sharon Green, CEO of Unical, echoed this sentiment, calling the partnership a pivotal moment that will unlock significant value for customers, employees, and stakeholders, and is a natural match for Satair’s ambitions in services growth, material availability, and sustainability.
