AerCap Holdings N.V, the global leader in aviation leasing, has entered into a significant purchase and leaseback agreement with Virgin Atlantic. The deal, finalized today, covers six brand-new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, which will be sourced directly from the airline’s existing order book with Airbus.
This transaction marks a substantial expansion of the long-standing partnership between the two companies. The aircraft deliveries are set to commence in the second quarter of 2026 and will be completed by the fourth quarter of 2027. This influx of next-generation aircraft is a core component of Virgin Atlantic’s strategic plan to modernize its widebody fleet, enhancing both its operational efficiency and environmental profile.
Peter Anderson, Chief Commercial Officer of AerCap, hailed the agreement, stating, “We are delighted to deepen our long-standing partnership with Virgin Atlantic—one of the world’s most innovative airlines—through this important transaction. The A330neo is one of the most sought-after aircraft globally, combining advanced technology with exceptional efficiency. These aircraft will play a key role in Virgin Atlantic’s widebody fleet renewal, supporting its commitment to sustainability by lowering emissions and enhancing operational performance.”
The A330-900neo, Airbus’s next-generation twin-engine widebody, is renowned for its advanced aerodynamics, new Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, and increased use of lightweight materials. These features contribute to a significant reduction in fuel burn and carbon emissions per seat compared to previous-generation aircraft, aligning with Virgin Atlantic’s sustainability goals.
From a customer experience perspective, the new aircraft will feature Virgin Atlantic’s latest cabin interiors. Ansar Hussain, Chief Financial Officer of Virgin Atlantic, commented, “We have invested billions to fly the youngest, most efficient fleet across the Atlantic. The A330neo aircraft entering our fleet this year will debut larger Premium and Upper Class cabins, as well as more Retreat Suites—our most spacious suite yet. We’re grateful for our enduring partnership with AerCap, which allows us to offer our customers the very best of the iconic Virgin Atlantic experience in the sky.”
For AerCap, this agreement underscores its strategy of partnering with leading airlines to facilitate fleet modernization through its leasing solutions. For Virgin Atlantic, the purchase and leaseback structure provides capital efficiency, allowing the airline to leverage AerCap’s financing while securing the advanced aircraft critical to its network growth and competitive service offering on key routes. The deal solidifies the A330neo’s role as a pivotal asset in the future of long-haul travel for the iconic airline.
