FN America, LLC, has secured a $9.9 million contract to supply the latest generation of FN® M240B machine guns to the U.S. Army and Navy. The award marks another chapter in the company’s longest-running military partnership, reinforcing a lineage that began with the very first contract fulfilled at its South Carolina facility.
“This award is a continuation of our commitment to equipping the warfighter with battle-proven systems,” stated Jim Williams, Vice President of Military Programs for FN America. He emphasized the historical significance of the M240 program, noting it was the inaugural contract produced at their Columbia plant. “We are deeply honored to once again provide our service members with the reliable, high-performance weapons they depend on.”
A mainstay of the U.S. military since the late 1970s, the FN® M240B remains the standard medium machine gun across all branches. Celebrated for its “go-to/can-do” reliability, the weapon delivers sustained suppressive fire essential for infantry platoons and companies. Chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, its performance is driven by a cold hammer-forged MIL-SPEC barrel featuring a hard-chromed bore. This design maximizes accuracy and extends service life, achieving an effective range out to 3,725 meters. Built on a machined steel receiver with a top-mounted MIL-STD-1913 optical rail, the platform ensures operator control via a curved trigger and crossbolt safety.
Daryl Atkins, Director of Industrialized Weapons, highlighted the company’s domestic manufacturing footprint. “Since we began production stateside in 1981, FN has delivered millions of firearms to the U.S. military from our South Carolina operations. We take immense pride in that tradition and look forward to continuing it with this new award.”
As one of the largest small arms suppliers in U.S. military history, FN America continues to balance legacy production with future innovation. Beyond the M240B, the company supports specialized contracts for USSOCOM, including the FN® M249, MK 46, MK 48, MK 17, and the MK 20 SSR, ensuring American forces are equipped across the spectrum of conflict.
